Question:How can teachers apply for participation in DEEP Learning Communities?

Answer:

To be eligible for DEEP Learning Communities, teachers must:

  • Be employed at a school that has entered a partnership agreement with the project and has an administrator to participate along with teachers
  • Teach mathematics in grades 4-8
  • Must not have previously participated in a Math and Science Partnership project (i.e., ATOMS, CHAMPS, DELTA, DELTA2, MAST, PrIME, TANS)
  • Agree to participate in all project-related activities

Question:What will the DEEP Learning Communities project offer teachers and administrators?

Answer:

Participating administrators and teachers received the following support:

  • Summer institute with stipend and mileage reimbursement
  • Academic follow-ups that feature student lessons
  • Industrial follow-ups with industry leaders in order to help teachers make real world connections to the mathematics used in manufacturing and production
  • Stipend to schools/school districts to help offset the cost of substitute teachers used while participants are away during the academic year at project activities
  • Quality professional development that will enhance the understanding and implementation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
