Question: How can teachers apply for participation in DEEP Learning Communities?
Answer:
To be eligible for DEEP Learning Communities, teachers must:
- Be employed at a school that has entered a partnership agreement with the project and has an administrator to participate along with teachers
- Teach mathematics in grades 4-8
- Must not have previously participated in a Math and Science Partnership project (i.e., ATOMS, CHAMPS, DELTA, DELTA2, MAST, PrIME, TANS)
- Agree to participate in all project-related activities
Question: What will the DEEP Learning Communities project offer teachers and administrators?
Answer:
Participating administrators and teachers received the following support:
- Summer institute with stipend and mileage reimbursement
- Academic follow-ups that feature student lessons
- Industrial follow-ups with industry leaders in order to help teachers make real world connections to the mathematics used in manufacturing and production
- Stipend to schools/school districts to help offset the cost of substitute teachers used while participants are away during the academic year at project activities
- Quality professional development that will enhance the understanding and implementation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
